And The Winner, is.....

How must that feel to have your name called as the 'winner'...the one who has beaten off the competition, the one who has stood out above all others?

Wow. For some people it's a life defining moment. For many , it's a dream that will never happen. They don't believe they will ever be the One.

I disagree. Totally.

I believe that anyone who puts their mind to it, who does what it takes, who can stay the course and overcome the obstacles, can do it. I'm not talking about winning an Oscar by the way (unless that's what your big goal is), I'm talking about achieving the success that you dream about.Whatever it is, in whatever field you are in.
Almost every day I sit in front of people who are succesful at what they do. However- they are still not doing their best, and that's where I come in. Before you can really hit the big time, you kinda need to know who you are and what you've got going for yourself.

So firstly, you need answers to the following:

o What is it about me that stands out?
o What do I do (or could do) better than anyone I know?
o How much do I use my uniqueness ?
o Where do I want to be - and what's stopping me from being there right now?

Secondly, you need someone pushing you , supporting you with your goals, and not letting go until you are there. Someone who will inspire you when the going gets tough, but won't judge you when you make mistakes. That's a tricky one. But there are plenty of people out there who are brilliant, and one of them will be right for you. Find that person!

Thirdly. you need to mentally prepare for success. Think only about winning. Think only about being the best you can possibly be. Get rid of any negativity, doubt, and false reasons why you can't do it. Holding onto a winning mentality will drive you forward.

Get ready, get excited.

Because The Winner , is......YOU.

What are you waiting for?

What Now?

Christmas is a distant memory...the fun of New Year has gone, and we are well into January 2013.

So What Now?

Are you raring to go or already fed up? Is this going to be YOUR year, or are you struggling to keep yourself motivated?

Newspapers and Magazines are full of tips for mind, body and soul- so there's no shortage of help at hand.

But tips aren't always the stuff that's needed.
Often, it's you. Isn't it?

You are the one who has the answers- you just don't want to face them. Yet.
It's much easier to look at (and read about) other peoples' lives. How they might be struggling, what's going well (or not) for them. Especially celebrities.

Looking outside is much more comfortable than looking within. At ourselves.

I say- as a coach (and I am mean) be uncomfortable ! Get out of your comfy comfort zone, kick your own ass and get moving!

Get living! ..and don't wait until Monday (what a lame excuse). Today is the best day to start.
Stop giving yourself excuses. Think about what you want to do with your life (and with yourself) this year and make a god damn plan!

Set your goals high , give yourself some deadline dates - and set yourself on fire with determination!

OR.

Get yourself a coach who will give you the kick you need.
....But if you want easy. Don't ask me.

Heck, I'm really mean.
But good.

Celebrities...And Being Happy

For our entertainment, we currently have 3 big 'celebrity' programmes on TV:

'The X Factor', 'Strictly Come Dancing', and 'I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here'.

So what's the attraction for us?

Why are some of us glued to the set every night/week?
Because (as the government is now realising) we want to be happy, have a laugh, have fun (even at the expense of others), and find a release from our daily lives. When we are happy, we are ill less, we become more productive at work, and we are more pleasant to be around.

But what about the 'stars' who are helping us be happy? Well, they get to stay in the publics eye (which they need), they get money in different degrees-but of course they pay the price in other ways. If we don't warm to them, or like them-they lose out. Their every emotion is played out for all to see, and when the cameras have been switched off-where and who do they turn to?

Celebrities are just like you and I. They need support with insecurities, self doubt and low confidence. They want privacy when they can't have it and need the right kind of emotional support that they will struggle to get - and all 'because they should be able to handle the pressure that comes with their job' - people say) .

But you know, when all is said and done, behind the name we're all the same!
.....we all have pressures to deal with, but how good we are at finding a way of doing that, is one difference between being happy or not.

The Ryder Cup 'Show'

So thousands have gathered in Wales to watch the Ryder Cup, and millions will be watching on TV.

The golf course looks fantastic, and the competition is both famous and exciting. Already, bets are being placed on which team is likely to win.

Is it about skill? Experience? Teamwork? Style?

Yes, yes, yes and yes.

And it's much more than that.

The Ryder Cup -like many major tournaments is about the spectacle of it all-the show.

It's entertainment (anyone who thinks it's just about the sport needs a wake up call).

Eyes will be watching how the players act and react when playing their opponents. Will someone blame the course / weather / or crowd for a missed shot? How will Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy fare under the glare of the spotlight this time? Which team will visually display the strongest behaviour?

How will the team captains hold it together?

And will the 'losers', lose well?

Golf is not just about the physical round, it's about how you mentally play the round.

Win in your head and you have far more chance of winning the game.

Psych yourself up and you will psych out your opponent.

Believe you are the best even if you are playing your worst -its the only way to get back on top.

And more than anything-enjoy it.

The crowd wants to see a good show-so give 'em everything you've got!

May the 'best' team win....

Slimming at work?

'Make the working week work for you.'

How?

Weight Loss wrecker

You skip your after -work Pilates class and pile into the nearest wine bar for your favourite tipple and packet of crisps. Then you call at the chip shop on teh way home pr make do with a frozen ready-meal in front of the TV.

Weight Loss winner-tip.

Slimming with colleagues can create a real bond, and there's less chance of going off track as you won't want to let anyone down...

If everyone at work is telling you how fabulous you look and that they'd like to slim too, why not invite them to join you at a slimming group or gym?

See the rest of my comments and tips in the October edition feature of 'Slimming World' Magazine.

Whose side are you on?

Are you look for some answers?

If you are, then I have good news for you.

I know how you can find them.

It doesn't matter what answers you are looking for , they are all valid and important-and the questions may lead you to be in turmoil. The kind of questions that I have most commonly heard and helped people with are:

1. When will I be successful?

2. Will I ever find the right partner for me?

3. Why does bad luck keep happening to me?

4. Will I ever be slim/attractive?

5. Am I going to find happiness?

If any of these apply to you, then you'll know what I mean when I say that you torture yourself regularly (every day?) with your own personal story of misfortune-truly believing that you are on your own and doubting whether you will get what you want out of life.

You may hear yourself saying: 'poor me', 'stupid me' , 'ugly me' or 'loser me'-none of which are true and none of which will help you. in any way ,shape or form. Got that?

These labels are damaging and disabling.

But you know that don't you?

(And don't get me started on how they make you feel!).

So whose side are you on?

Find out by listening to yourself. Catch yourself 'talking yourself down' and 'talk yourself up' instead (yep even if you feel daft doing it).

Become your No.1 Fan. Here's why:

- We have more chance of winning when we are supported (by anyone).

- We try harder when we know someone will praise and encourage us .

- We take more risks if we feel brave. We feel brave when we have rock solid support.

- The more we grow, the more we know (and vice versa!).

- See yourself the way you want others to see you.(pretty damn good, if not fantastic).

Allow yourself to step outside of your comfort zone and give yourself all the encouragement you would give your closest friend / family member.

It's time to stop asking the questions and start discovering the answers.

You have them already.

All of them.

Ok, they may not be the perfect answers-but they are the right ones for this moment in time. They will lead you in the direction you want to be.

Get on your own side, and start winning.
